The buzz around CBD continues, but there is still some confusion about it as well. Let’s explore common terminology related to CBD, and the differences between CBD product formulations and types.

What is CBD?

CBD stands for “cannabidiol” and is one of many naturally occurring compounds in the hemp plant. It interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system and has been shown to have numerous health benefits, such as lowering inflammation, reducing pain, and calming anxiety.

Marijuana vs Hemp:

Both hemp and marijuana are derived from the same plant species, cannabis Sativa. The defining difference is that marijuana contains tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. THC has psychoactive properties and is the compound that makes you feel “high.” Hemp, on the other hand, contains 0.3 percent THC or less, meaning hemp-derived products do not have psychoactive properties. Nivå CBD products contain no detectable amount of THC. See per batch test results at nivaquality.com.

What are terpenes and cannabinoids?

Terpenes are aromatic metabolites found in the oils of a plant. Cannabinoids refer to naturally occurring compounds found in the cannabis plant species, and include CBD and THC, among others. When terpenes work with cannabinoids like CBD, they may form a synergy that creates stronger effects than both would achieve on their own. This is known as the entourage effect.

Nivå advanced absorption with VESIsorb®:

Nivå CBD softgels and Nivå PM are made using VESIsorb®, a patented colloidal droplet delivery system used for increased absorption and bioavailability. A colloid is created when CBD molecules are extracted from the hemp plant, and injected into a droplet with other bioactives that are then re-encapsulated by a fatty layer. As such, this fatty layer is recognized by the body as a lipid, and is thereby 90% more absorbable and bioavailable than a water-based layer. VESIsorb® has been researched and proven effective with various nutrients and found to be up to 622% more absorbable. View a video demonstration below.

What is the difference between broad-spectrum and CBD isolate formulas?

Broad-spectrum cannabidiol (CBD) is an extract containing other compounds of the cannabis plant, such as essential oils, terpenes and other cannabinoids. CBD isolate is the pure form of CBD. It contains no other compounds besides the CBD itself.
