It’s an inevitable fact of life. As men age, their bodies will produce less testosterone. This vital hormone does more than just regulate sex drive. It also plays a role in our metabolism, influences energy levels, and helps maintain muscle mass and bone density.

Lower levels of testosterone in men in their 40s and 50s have also been associated with increases in blood sugar levels, leading to higher instances of insulin resistance and possibly diabetes.

Our expert, Dr. Adam Teichman, discussed the connect between lower testosterone and glucose levels with WAEB Healthline host Bobby Gunther Walsh. He explained how low testosterone affects the body and how Res-Q PrimeRx can help boost levels.

Andropause: Less Testosterone Leads to Lower Muscle Mass

Gunther: I guess I never realized it. Lower levels of estrogen and testosterone have been associated with increased blood sugar levels. So, talk to me about that doc.

Teichman: "Once we hit our thirties, there is a gradual decline of testosterone of around one to two percent per year in men. It doesn't happen for everybody earlier on, but later we start to develop fatigue, low energy, less muscle mass, and increased fat, especially that visceral fat that surrounds the organs, the belly fat.

"So, you're still carrying the body weight, the fat around the abdomen, but the rest of your body doesn't have that much fat. That's a sign that you can have low testosterone. The term we use for men when they have this gradual drop is called andropause.

"Muscle tissue is one of the biggest consumers of glucose. Less muscle mass means less burning of glucose. The more that balance shifts towards fat instead of muscle, the more insulin resistance develops."

Increased Inflammation

Teichman: "Estrogen and testosterone naturally help control inflammation, and when levels drop, inflammation increases throughout the body. This low-grade chronic inflammation interferes with insulin signaling, pushing to body further towards pre-diabetes and type two diabetes."

Disrupting Our Metabolic Balance

Teichman: "Low testosterone also has a direct metabolic effect. It slows glucose uptake into the cells and changes how the liver manages sugar and fat.

"One of the major direct metabolic effects that hormonal decline can have, is it can affect our sleep, our appetite, and our activity level. So, people often sleep less deeply. They feel more fatigued; they crave more carbohydrates for energy. And this will also lead to weight gain, especially around the waist.

"When estrogen and testosterone drop, the body loses two of its best allies for maintaining insulin sensitivity, muscle mass, and the metabolic balance. So, blood sugars rise more easily and the risk of type two diabetes increases."

Increase Testosterone with Res-Q PrimeRx

Gunther: PrimeRx has ingredients in it that help your body produce more testosterone. It doesn't have testosterone in it, but it has ingredients that stimulate your body's own production of testosterone. What's in PrimeRx?

Teichman: "It's a great supplement to take for men who are going through andropause or being proactive as they hit around 30 – 40 years of age.

"Its main ingredient is KSM-66, which is a patented, clinically studied extract the ashwagandha root. It's known as an adaptogen, which helps the body adapt to stress. So high stress and elevated cortisol cell levels lower testosterone production.

"KSM-66 helps restore the normal signaling from the brain and that helps the hormonal pathway that controls testosterone release. There are studies that show that men who took KSM-66 had a 17 percent increase in testosterone over eight to 12 weeks, along with improved energy, endurance, and muscle and strength.

"It also has boron in it, which is a trace mineral that helps regulate hormones that control testosterone. It's been shown to reduce the sex hormone binding globulin. That's the protein that locks up testosterone, and keeps it inactive. So, by lowering that sex hormone binding globulin, it increases free testosterone, the form your body can actually use to help build muscle, improve mood, and support libido.

"Lower testosterone also leads to lower vitamin D levels. Vitamin D is found directly on the Leydig cells in the testes. Those cells are important to make and produce testosterone, so restoring vitamin D levels with PrimeRx helps the body produce more of its own testosterone.

"So PrimeRx is delivering not only the building blocks and minerals, but also the hormone modulators and supporting botanicals in one formula. Over time this will help as we get older to maintain or boost testosterone levels naturally."
